Semester 2: Direction

So where to begin? .... Well the aim of Semester 1 was to explore techniques of how to create emotion in an Environment. Now the focus has shifted to the emotive quality of hand painted texture work. Many games rely on the talent and ability of artists to create beautiful hand painted textures. These textures give games there own identity and emotive style. Games such as Borderlands, World or Warcraft and fable are great examples of how hand painted textures can work beautifully.

World of Warcraft in particular has to rely heavily on its texture work to show lighting information as it is a MMO (Massive Multiplayer Online.) This kind of game requires really low poly environments, this is why the texture work is vital in creating as much detail as possible.

I am to explore the WOW hand painted texture style as well as its modeling style which Josh likes to label Charm/Chunky/Fantasy.
